I have not posted anything on my blog for a long time. Almost 2 months, to be exact! A lot has happened in the past few months. After having been unempoyed for two months I moved back to Passau to start my new job. I moved in with my boyfriend and quickly after that we moved to a bigger apartment. I reconnected with old friends and made some new ones. I started baking cakes which I have never done before. I took part in my first 10k race and started teaching yoga for students and staff at Passau University. I started to learn how to play the clarinet and started playing folk music with friends. I would say all these things combined make up for some pretty big changes in my life.
Bad mood everywhere
Among all the people I encountered over the last couple of months were some rude and unhappy people. I went to a store in Vienna and stood in line for what I thought was the cash desk. When I made it to the front of the line the lady told me with this rude tone in her voice that this was not the cash desk, that she was not responsible for me. It was a great day until the moment she was rude to me without reason.
Something else that I have been wrapping my mind around lately is that I feel like some people get into a kind of “complaint mode” once they are with others. They just rant about how bad their lives are, and most of the times it’s the small things they are complaining about. It seems like they have lost their interest in empathy for others. They do not care for other people’s feelings and what is going on in their lives. Their thoughts solely revolve around their problems and it seems like their brains are so occupied with their own misery that that’s the only thing they can think about.
Situations like these happen to me regularly and I really wonder: Why? We all have bad days, I have been there too. But what if your life seems to only consist of bad days? If you can’t listen to other people’s stories because all you can think about is yourself? If you can’t even find nice words for strangers anymore?
Be kind. Always.
It is true that I do not know why strangers act the way they do. Maybe they are going through a tough phase in life. I have been there, just like everybody has been there. Of course you need to talk about your problems with others, you may also need professional help sometimes.
But don’t let your problems take over your and other people’s worlds. Please always remember to treat others the way you want to be treated. Be kind to the people you love and to the people you don’t even know.
Everybody deserves your kindness. Maybe you can even brighten somebody else’s day with a smile and some kind words. After being treated with kindness people might reevaluate their thoughts, their problems, their lives. There is so much negativity going on in the world already, let’s move towards more positivity in our lives – together.
